The Three Tuns, Gateshead (Dec 2018)

Friday 28th December

Tenth Line-Up: Lenny (Vocals), Woody (Drums), Chris (Bass), Martin Craggs (Guitar)

Live music – it’s my drug of choice….

But you know, it’s been noticeable how much things have changed this year – audiences dwindling, venues going to the wall, bands calling it a day – despite some sterling efforts from many venues.

Even my old stomping ground The Three Tuns had – on a Friday at least – slowed down considerably from the glory days when you had to get there early if you wanted a decent view.

I will admit, I was kinda worried.

Then something comes along and changes all that… or rather some band.

Watching the incredibly cool Tubesnake get 20 or so people up dancing, and the rest of the room rocking along, I could feel that old energy – the spark that makes my blood pump harder.

I have had many memorable nights in The Three Tuns, but tonight will stay with me for a very long time – because for the first Friday in far too long, it felt like home.

Paul Smith (runs The Three Tuns), thanks for still believing and never stopping trying to create somewhere special, where everyone is welcome.

There’s life in the old girl yet, and all it takes to find it is enough people that are passionate about their music to turn out and support it, and bands to give it their all.

Tubesnake did that tonight – and then some.

Lenny Mustarde, you and your brethren should be proud of yourself .
Thanks for an awesome night.

THE THREE TUNS, Sheriff Hill, Gateshead … STILL the best pub in the world. Come see why.
