Where Have All The Flower’s Gone?
The Daisy Hill, Sacriston ceases live music!
I am sorry to have to advise you that the owner of the pub has decided that no further live music/bands will be promoted at this venue until further notice. This is effective immediately. Your gig bookings for 2010, at this venue, therefore, are no longer available and it is with regret that we take this sad action. The owner is considering his options currently and it may well be that live music will be re-started at some point this year but in a different format. One option is to put bands on once per month. Another is to use the other side of the pub for live music, although this is a smaller room, it is more managable/easier to heat/run. As some of you who have already played here this year will be aware, there have been considerable problems with the ‘concert’ room over the winter. The flat roof leaking onto the stage due to the severe winter weather, putting the stage area out of action. There have also been problems with heating the room, causing the customers problems due to the coldness of the room in the cold weather. Finally, the numbers of customers coming through the doors for live music has reduced due to the recession (this is the same in most pubs) and it is proving extremely difficult to sustain the bands financially. We would perhaps consider the band fees reducing and offering the door money in addition, as an alternative? Not sure if this is what bands would agree to, though? I would not rule out live music re-starting again, however, and if this occurs, we will be in touch about gig bookings. I wish you all well with your bands, and hope that we are able to re-start in the future, if things pick-up/improve/change! … Pete Robson (Events Organiser)
